My little sister stayed with us last week, and our amounts of fun reached stupidly high proportions. One of the things she really enjoyed was playing Castle Crashers together on the Xbox 360. It’s a great game, so she had good reasons to enjoy it. But I got quite a shock when I loaded up the game and saw that every bit of my save file had disappeared. My achievements are still there, of course, but all those times I beat the final boss? My level 67 green knight and the levels of my other characters? All my unlocked pets, weapons, and characters? Gone. They just dried up and blew away, I guess.
I haz teh bowl of sadness.
This doesn’t look like an uncommon problem. I tried some of the supposed fixes for this bug, but nothing has worked yet. I reckon I’ll just finish playing through as the blue knight, since I played as him alongside my sister and hadn’t played as him before. At least the lollipop is still available for me, and it’s a super cool weapon with its +5 agility. In Castle Crashers, agility makes your character move faster, shoot arrows faster, and makes arrows fly farther and do more damage. I can’t stand slow characters in video games – like at the beginning of any Pokemon game I’ve played – so that’s a HUGE plus for me. I like the strong, fast moving arrows, too, because I shoot a lot of arrows. I’m not as good at the hand-to-hand combat in Castle Crashers, what with being literally unable to block and losing track of my characters when the horde crushes in on them.
The weapons, pets, and characters aren’t hugely difficult to unlock, so I’m less than upset about losing them. I’ll just go back through and unlock them again if I get the urge. What I’m really upset about is losing all the experience of my characters. I had already beaten the game as the red knight, green knight, gray knight, and maybe one or two other characters. It’s hard to remember exactly which ones because it’s been awhile since I played regularly. I had also played some as the pink knight and as a couple of the unlockable enemy characters.
When I saw that all my Castle Crashers data had disappeared into thin air, my sister told me I can just go back and play it all again. “That’s the fun part, right?” she said. While that’s not precisely false, I think that’s more true for children than for twenty-something married people who know how valuable time is and how very upsetting it is to waste something so precious. I poured a lot of time into Castle Crashers, and I’m sad that almost all the evidence of that has disappeared.
It’s just a game, though, and not a very long or difficult one at that. It’s not like I lost my 200+ hours of Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age 2 save files, or my 170 hours of Pokemon SoulSilver. I never even played more than thirty minutes of insane mode. Life will go on. I’m a little apprehensive about trying insane mode again, though. Who knows when my new save file could randomly be deleted? If I manage to beat insane mode just to have all that work wiped away when I least expect it, I just might be heartbroken.
In any case, I’ll be playing through Castle Crashers again, so would anybody like to help me unlock the multiplayer achievements? It’s hard to find anyone to play with online, and I would greatly appreciate a little help.
