Our Razer Onza Controller Has Seen Better Days

For our anniversary last year, I bought Hubbles a Razer Onza Tournament Edition controller.  In truth, it was one of those presents I bought where I knew I would get just as much use out of it as Hubbles, if not more.  But really, is there a better excuse for buying both of us a super duper awesome Xbox 360 controller than our anniversary?  We love each other, and we love the Xbox.  Hooray!  Unfortunately, between us using the controller all day every day and Ibsen eating the controller cord, it might not last as long as I’d hoped it would.

The left joystick has seen better days.

That anti-slip covering or whatever on the joysticks was never really my thing.  It always makes my thumbs feel sweaty.  Am I the only one, here?  Honestly, I think I prefer the textured plastic underneath the covering.  I paid fifty dollars for this controller, though, and I’m not exactly ecstatic about that covering wearing away.  It looks awfully janky.

Pictured: ugly ass joystick.

At least it only looks janky.  It still performs perfectly well.  I am trying very hard to hold back a veritable flood of dirty jokes about joysticks that can perform, despite their ugliness.  I can’t play games that require perfect d-pad input without this controller’s fancy separated d-pad buttons.  Chime is beyond maddening with our other controller, and switching guns in Borderlands can be wonky and weird.  My Lilith character died a few times during intense gun battles because I needed a particular gun right away, and the d-pad on our other controller went crazy and pulled up the wrong gun.  It’s a nice controller and all that, but that d-pad just isn’t up to snuff for some games.  Our Razer Onza is still pretty good, despite its obvious aesthetic shortcomings.  Good thing, too, because that joystick is seriously ugly now.

Nothing worse than having an ugly joystick. ZING!

Maybe I should just use this as an excuse to get the special Dragon Age II collector’s edition of the Razer Onza Tournament Edition controller.  Pro tip:  it’s cheaper on AmazonEither way, I can’t help but wonder if this is a common issue, or if we just play too much Xbox.  It has to be the former, because there’s no such thing as playing too much Xbox.
